Matera

Matera is a city of unique beauty, a UNESCO World Heritage site, and, this year it also is the European Capital of Culture.

You may recognize it from Mel Gibson’s “The Passion of the Christ”, of for its particular apparence, it’s difficult to confuse it with any other city. It’s one of the oldest towns in the world, as it has been inhabited since the Neolithic age. The whole city is made of carved caves, or as we call them Sassi, that used to be houses, churches, shops! Most of them were restored into beautiful and incredibly unique houses!
It’s an old city so it’s quiet and nice, the perfect place to relax and experience something you will never see again!
